High-Performance IT Passive Cabling Infrastructure for Advanced Automotive Engineering Operations in Bangalore
Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India Pvt. Ltd. (MBRDI), the largest R&D center for Mercedes-Benz outside Germany, is a critical hub driving innovation in automotive design, digital engineering, software development, connected vehicle technology, simulation, and next-generation mobility solutions. MBRDI’s Bangalore facility supports high-compute engineering workloads, cloud-native development environments, global collaboration workflows, and advanced testing frameworks that require an exceptionally reliable and scalable IT backbone.
To ensure low-latency performance, consistent bandwidth, and future-ready digital infrastructure, MBRDI required a high-precision structured passive cabling ecosystem capable of supporting complex engineering applications and globally synchronized development processes.
Orchids Network & Systems (I) Pvt. Ltd. was selected to deploy a world-class passive cabling framework that aligns with Mercedes-Benz’s global IT standards and supports mission-critical engineering operations.
Project Objective
The objective was to design and implement a robust, high-bandwidth IT passive cabling infrastructure for MBRDI’s Bangalore campus. This infrastructure needed to support CAD and CAE systems, simulation engines, cloud-connected engineering workflows, high-speed rendering, digital validation systems, vehicle software development, and secure collaboration with global engineering teams.
The deployment had to deliver high reliability, minimal signal loss, predictable performance, and seamless scalability to accommodate MBRDI’s long-term R&D expansion.
Solution Delivered by Orchids Network & Systems
Engineering-Grade Structured Cabling Architecture
Orchids designed a CAT6A shielded structured cabling system engineered specifically for high-density engineering clusters, laboratory zones, testing environments, and collaborative spaces. Shielded cabling was essential to protect data transmission from electromagnetic interference generated by engineering hardware, testing equipment, and dense device ecosystems.
A multi-layer fiber backbone interlinked communication rooms, simulation labs, server zones, and engineering pods, ensuring low-latency connectivity and high-throughput data transfer. This backbone allowed seamless operation of compute-intensive tools, rapid file exchange for large engineering models, and uninterrupted synchronization with Mercedes-Benz’s global data centers.
All routing pathways were designed with RCDD-driven engineering principles, optimized containment, controlled bend radii, and strict adherence to ISO and TIA standards.
Infrastructure Optimized for Advanced Automotive Engineering Workloads
MBRDI’s digital engineering activities require exceptional network stability and bandwidth.
Orchids designed the cabling ecosystem to support:
- High-resolution CAD rendering
- Large-scale simulation workloads
- Real-time collaborative engineering
- Cloud-native development pipelines
- Secure OTA (over-the-air) software development workflows
- High-volume data capture from testing tools
The resulting infrastructure ensured stable and predictable network performance across all engineering functions.
Zero-Disruption Deployment in a Live Engineering Environment
MBRDI’s development operations cannot afford interruptions. Orchids executed the deployment through a carefully phased approach, scheduling work during controlled windows, engineering downtime periods, and non-disruptive execution phases.
Precision coordination with MBRDI’s IT leadership ensured that all engineering activities and global collaboration sessions remained uninterrupted throughout the upgrade.
Uniform documentation standards, labeling conventions, and certification formats were followed to align with Mercedes-Benz global IT frameworks.
Compliance, Documentation, and Audit Alignment
All installations adhered strictly to Mercedes-Benz corporate IT policies, network segmentation rules, and security guidelines. Orchids delivered comprehensive documentation including fiber test reports, cable route maps, rack elevation diagrams, patch panel layouts, and as-built architectural drawings.
This enabled simplified audits, easier network governance, and long-term maintainability.
Outcome and Measurable Impact
MBRDI’s Bangalore facility now operates on a high-availability, engineering-ready passive cabling foundation built for next-generation automotive development. Network latency significantly reduced, improving performance for simulation tools, digital validation workflows, and collaborative engineering platforms.
The structured cabling upgrade strengthened connectivity across engineering labs, software teams, testing units, and research pods, enabling smoother collaboration with Mercedes-Benz engineering centers worldwide.
The infrastructure now supports future R&D scalability including AI-driven engineering tools, digital twin simulations, connected vehicle platform enhancements, and software-defined vehicle development initiatives.
Why MBRDI Partnered with Orchids Network & Systems
MBRDI selected Orchids for its precision-driven engineering capabilities, deep experience in high-performance structured cabling deployments, and ability to operate within demanding R&D environments without operational disruption. Orchids delivered a globally compliant, scalable, and technically robust infrastructure aligned with Mercedes-Benz’s vision for next-generation mobility engineering.
